Dopo essere stata tradizionalmente assente sulla scena scientifica internazionale, la ricerca italiana sui chirotteri si è notevolmente sviluppata e gli zoologi del nostro Paese hanno contribuito a un miglioramento delle conoscenze di tipo sistematico, ecologico e comportamentale sui chirotteri, con notevoli implicazioni per la conservazione biologica.

In questa sezione presentiamo una bibliografia, che speriamo esaustiva, degli articoli pubblicati su riviste scientifiche internazionali ad alta diffusione riguardanti studi condotti in Italia a partire dal 1999.

Recentemente, Hystrix – The Italian Journal of Mammalogy ha pubblicato un numero speciale (Vol 22, No 1 (2011): Studies on Bats in honour of Benedetto Lanza) in onore di Benedetto Lanza, scienziato che ha contribuito in misura significativa alla chirotterologia classica italiana.
