The agreement |
At the end of 2017, the Italian Ministry for the Environment with the World Bank (BM), launched the AGREED program (Africa's Green and Climate Resilient Development), with the aim of supporting African countries in their commitment to green growth and adaptation to climate change.
Italy contributes to the program with funds for 12 million dollars for a period of three years.
Objectives and results |
The program is addressed to the African countries with which the Italian Ministry for the Environment has bilateral agreements underway or under negotiation. The governments of the beneficiary countries will be supported in identifying possible financing and in the preparation of projects and programs through technical assistance and capacity building activities, in order to allow the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions, NDC.
To do this, Agreed focuses on maximizing available resources by promoting the blending of different sources of funding. Projects will be identified on the basis of the needs expressed by African governments, in the framework of bilateral agreements with Italy. Activities will focus, in particular, on the promotion of renewable sources, the management of coastal areas and the reduction of water, air and soil pollution and management of natural resources.
