In November 2015, the Ministry of the Environment joined ICAT, the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency, contributing financially to the associated UNOPS Trust Fund with 5 million Euros.
The Initiative is supported by Italy, Germany and two philanthropic associations (Children Investment Fund Foundation and Climate Works Foudation). ISPRA is involved as an implementing partner to ICAT.
ICAT contributes to the implementation of the Paris Agreement’s art. 13 which asks for enhanced transparency by all Parties.
In particular, ICAT aims to improve the capacity of developing countries to monitor, assess and report the impacts of their actions to meet their NDCs and to enhance the capacity to adapt and bring greater quality, trust and ambition to climate policies worldwide. Thus the initiative will promote the development of shared indicators to support the national climate policies and monitoring systems and will facilitate effective decision making and policy design, rooted in credible data.
More than 30 developing countries will benefit from capacity building provided under ICAT.
