Vietnam is one of the most affected areas regarding Climate Change, and this is causing billions of dollars in damage every year. This happens both due to the alternation of periods of abundant drought with periods of floods, and because of the loss of territory, due to rising sea levels. The collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, (MASE), and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam began in 2018, when a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of climate change mitigation and adaptation was signed in Hanoi. The project born from this agreement provides for the establishment of a geo-information system for monitoring and assessing vulnerability to climate change and risk assessment based on remote sensing technology.

Italy-Vietnam Cooperation, Special Envoy for the Climate, Francesco Corvaro at the Event For Just Energy Transition Partnership At Cop 28 Dubai

Dubai, December 1st, 2023 – The Special Envoy for the Climate, Francesco Corvaro, took part, during the COP 28 taking place in Dubai, in the presentation event by the Vietnamese Government of the Financial Resources Mobilization Plan, (RMP), for the implementation of the Just Energy Transition Partnership.

Counterpart: Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Intervention areas:

• the implementation, monitoring and reporting of national greenhouse gas reduction targets;
• sustainable management of coastal zones and water resources, including the promotion of measures to combat seasonal water shortages and salt water intrusion;
• strengthening of the weather alert;
• the development of the National Space Infrastructure for Data Collection, (National Spatial Data Infrastructure);
• the establishment of green finance mechanisms;
• environment protection and sustainable waste management;
• capacity building and technology transfer;
• the development of awareness campaigns on the issues of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
