Armenia

The Armenian territory extends for about 29,000 km between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, and borders on Georgia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east, Iran to the south and Turkey to the west.

The average altitude of 1,800 meters has given this country the nickname of "Roof of Asia Minor". Mount Aragats (4,094 m) is the highest peak of the Lesser Caucasus mountain range, which extends from northern Armenia towards the southeast. The altitude differences of Armenia offer geographically diverse scenery with towering peaks, fertile valleys, waterfalls, basalt columns and rock sculptures. The territory is crossed by over 200 streams which flow into two main rivers: the Kura to the north and the Aras to the south, the longest river in the country (158 km in Armenian territory).

Armenia has a continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. From November to March, in winter, temperatures reach -10°C with heavy snowfalls, while in summer temperatures can even reach 45°C.

On October 7, 2021 in Rome, the then Italian Ministry of Ecological Transition, (now the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security), and that of the Environment of the Republic of Armenia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the field of Sustainable Development.

• Strengthening of public participation and exchange of good practices in the field of environmental assessment
