Rome, 26/10/2023 - The third Meeting of the Joint Committee within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Union of Comoros was held today via videoconference. The Memorandum of Understanding was renewed last year in Sharm El Sheikh, on the sidelines of COP27.
The meeting - co-chaired by the Director Roberta Ronzitti for the MASE and by the Director Elamine Youssouf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Environment, Tourism and Crafts - was an opportunity to restart activities on the project DECOR (link), aimed at creating an integrated urban solid waste management system for the city of Moroni and a national model based on the circular economy.
The Joint Committee then approved the updated technical-financial reports, a necessary premise for the continuation of the project, and requested the update of the project fiche in the light of the changed context conditions, which saw the strengthening of the organization of the counterparty, with the creation of a special National Waste Management Agency (ANGD) in the Comoros.
In particular, the Joint Committee accepted the need for a technical support for the best implementation of the project requested by the counterpart and then approved the collaboration proposal of a UNDP Expert, made available by the MASE in the framework of the protocol with the UNDP Rome Centre for Climate and Energy, to support the Ministry and the ANGD of the Comoros.
