Caribbean Cooperation, first meeting of the Joint Committee

Cooperazione Caraibi, prima riunione del Comitato Congiunto

The first meeting of the Joint Committee in the context of the new Memorandum of Understanding between MASE and Caricom countries, signed at COP27, was held in New York.  

NEW YORK (June 28) – The first meeting of the Joint Committee within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between MASE and the 9 countries of the Caribbean Area, was held on June 28 at the Italian Representation at the United Nations in New York, (Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Suriname), who have signed it to date.  

In order to underline the strategic importance, for Italy, of environmental cooperation in favor of the island states of the Caribbean, strongly affected by the negative effects of climate change, the meeting was opened by the Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations, Maurizio Massari, and by the Special Envoy for the Caribbean countries, Gianni Piccato.  

The meeting was an opportunity to integrate the cooperation projects already underway into the framework of the new Protocol, to approve the framework documents for the functioning of the Agreement, to present the priorities of the countries involved for the ecological transition and sustainable development, and in combating climate change and its negative impacts on their delicate and precious ecosystems.
